"Nobody Ever Got Fired for Buying Microsoft"

They say "Nobody ever got fired for buying Microsoft". But you can still get caught flat-footed for not knowing what Copilot is actually doing.

Gartner's research shows only about 5% of enterprise Copilot pilots ever expand into a full rollout. Whatfix found that the common culprit is no usage governance, which sets adoption back months on average.

The pattern is familiar. Leadership can point to a seat count and get "atta-boys" or bonuses, but nobody can answer which workflows their implementation actually changed, or who is reviewing what Copilot produces. The logs exist by default. The problem is not visibility, it's that nobody's looking.

"We standardized on Microsoft" was never a strategy, it was a safe default. Copilot just gives that default a subscription and a dashboard. Turning it on is not the same as knowing what you are trying to fix.
