Microsoft Just Shipped the Agent PC!
Every Windows PC is now a place where agents work on your behalf. Local models. Sensitive work stays on your device. Secure boundaries built in. This is a big deal for small and mid-sized businesses - cost barriers drop, trust barriers drop, and the conversation shifts from “should we even do this?” to “how fast can we start?”
Picture the day-to-day: an agent cleaning up your Excel models, drafting the Word docs, triaging your inbox, booking the meetings, chasing the followups. The desktop grind - the stuff that eats everyone's afternoon - starts handling itself.
That's the personal layer, and it's a good one. But there's a second layer, and it's where this gets exciting for a business.
So what should those agents actually do all day? The answer isn't more inbox triage - it's the work that keeps the business running. Watching for the new hire's start date and triggering onboarding. Catching the PO that went out without an approval. Pulling the numbers together into analysis you can act on. Checking on the customer who asked the same question three times this month.
That work doesn't happen on one person's desktop. It happens across the business - which is why we build expert bots: structured workflows, scoped to their role, every action logged. Not freelancing in a chat window. Real work, with a paper trail.
Watch the contrast: PC agents wait for you to open the laptop. Expert bots notice things - and act, or check with a person before they do.
PC agents work one document at a time. Expert bots pull the whole picture together - the numbers, the history, the “how we actually do things here” - and hand back something an owner can act on.
One helps you get your work done. The other helps the business run.
Some of this still feels unsettled, sure. Agents will eventually handle work end to end with no review at all. We said the same thing about online banking. Now nobody thinks twice.
The platform Microsoft just laid out - on-device models, secure execution - is exactly the ground we've been building governed bots and structured workflows on. The two fit together.
The agent desk just shipped. Now the real work starts!
